Welcome to this page.

Calvary Chapel Kamakura is one of the congregations (protestant church) that started from the Calvary Chapel movement in Costa Mesa, California and has branch churches worldwide.

Our particular church was started by missionaries from Calvary Fellowship in Seattle, WA.
We started the mission in Kamakura, Japan in 1992.

We seek to maintain a relaxed, casual atmosphere and worship in a contemporary style.

We teach the Bible by going through it systematically, book by book.
We believe that this is the best way to help people to grow into healthy, fruitful followers of Jesus.

Please feel free to contact us.

Greetings in the name of our precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! My name is Jack Bell. I have been a missionary here at Calvary Chapel Kamakura since we started in 1992.

When I first came to know Jesus back in 1982, I would never have dreamed that I would one day be in Japan for the sake of the gospel. At that time I was working at a ski resort in Montana. I was living only to please myself and, as a result, I found my life to be empty and without meaning. But praise God! By His mercy I was able to find new life in Jesus. The emptiness was filled. And now I live my life with purpose knowing that each day is a gift from the Lord.

In 1987 my life's direction took a turn as I became involved in missions, at first through Youth With A Mission and later serving in church planting for my home church of Calvary Fellowship in Seattle, Washington. My first trip to Japan was in 1987 while on a short-term outreach with YWAM. I came back again on another outreach in 1989 and at that time I felt that the Lord was calling me to work in church planting in Japan.

In 1991 I met Tak Tanaka who was doing an internship at Calvary and was preparing to return to Japan to plant a Calvary Chapel. After doing a one-year internship in Seattle I joined up with Tak and we moved into Kamakura to start pioneering a church. It has not always been easy ministering in Kamakura but it has been rewarding. We have started a fellowship where I now serve as the missionary pastor.

I also met my wife Mari here in Japan and we were married in 1994 and have since had our two children. God has been so good to us. We would like to invite anyone who is interested to come and join us at Calvary. If you would like to contact Mari or me personally please feel free to contact us. (click
